For many students a masters degree in math or science is a step on
the way to a doctorate. However over the last several years there has
been increased emphasis on professional masters degrees which are
designed primarily for those committed to a career in industry.
Students who are unsure if they want to commit to a full masters
program may be interested in a certificate program. These programs
consist of a few courses organized around a central theme, and usually
the courses can be applied to a masters degree if the student decides
