We have begun to deploy our next generation of Unix desktop systems to
early adopters who are testing them. There are four systems deployed
at the moment. The new desktops include updated versions of Firefox,
Dr. Scheme and many other packages. There are also some new packages
like linsmith for smith charts, dia for drawing diagrams of all
sorts, several drawing and paint applications. There are
new and updated multimedia applications, as well as the most recent versions of
OpenOffice, gnumeric and Abiword.

If you would like to be an early adopter of the new system and give us
your feedback for inclusion in the final system image that will be deployed
to replace our outdated NetBSD 2.x desktops please email iscit-staff
and let us know you want to join the fun!

Secure & authenticated SMTP relay is again accessible. In order to access it,
configure your mail client with the following SMTP server settings:

	Server: guinness.cs.stevens.edu
	Port: 2525
	TLS: Enabled

We are currently performing maintenance on the SMTP server (guinness.cs)
such that authenticated relay from off-campus sites does not work.

If you are on-campus, simply removing your username and password from your
mail client should allow you to use guinness.cs as your SMTP server.
status_updateF06.news [Mon, 16 Oct 2006 10:00:34 -0400]

We have been generating new user accounts successfully since Wednesday,
September 27th with no problems.

Anyone still needing to set up a new account can arrange to do
so in Burchard 127 during the following periods:

    Mon, Wed, Fri 3:00--4:00pm

We will maintain these scheduled periods until there is no longer a
demand, and will continue to be available by appointment. To make such an
appointment, please email <iscit-staff@cs.stevens.edu>.

Most support operations are now functining normally and we are solving
most problems in a timely fashion as they come to our attention.
We thank you for your continued patience and, as always, the preferred
method for reporting new problems is through the on-line Problem
Report System:
